The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences in collaboration with the Regional General Election Commission of Medan City carried out socialization activities on the importance of participation of first-time voters in the Medan city elections in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 Medan Pilkada will be held on December 9. Medan KPU continues to conduct socialization in order to increase voter participation.
The event, which was held at the cafe drinking coffee on Jalan Sena, the pioneering sub-district of Medan Timur sub-district, Medan city, invited young people, especially first-time voters, to be actively involved in this election.

Rholand Muary, S.Sos, M.Sos as the resource person said that it is important for youth to be involved in the election process this time to participate in development. Pilkada is one part of the change of power which has an impact on policy changes, especially policies in the city of Medan related to Medan city problems such as floods, congestion and crime.
Meanwhile, Ian Pasaribu, S.Sos, M.Si said that there are several characteristics of voters specifically for beginner voters.
Delivering Voting Behavior can be seen from 3 aspects, namely: a sociological approach, a psychological approach, and a rational approach.
– Sociological Approach : choosing because of social environmental factors (community, social gathering and community groups)
– Psychological Approach: Identification of political parties and personal qualities of gallons
– Rational approach: consideration of profit and loss (political economy factors)
while Rholand Muary, S.Sos, M.Sos said that novice voters can play a role in the Election, among others, by participating in elections, being rational voters, being independent observers, overseeing election results and becoming the ruling moral force after the election.
This event is expected to increase voter participation, especially first-time voters at the Medan City Election in 2020.
